The Plugged In Show, Episode 67: What You Need to Know About Roblox

LISTEN TO THE PLUGGED IN SHOW, EPISODE 67

Have you heard of the video game Adopt Me? I hadn’t either until late December, when my niece introduced my two daughters to this online game about raising, trading and collecting colorful pets. And Adopt Me, it turns out, is just one of myriad iterations of the incredibly popular video game creation platform known as Roblox.

Roblox isn’t new. It’s been around since 2006, offering young would-be game designers a chance to create their own games within the parameters of a virtual world that is, in some broad ways, a bit like Minecraft. But since the arrival of COVID-19, Roblox has enjoyed a new surge of young players discovering its many games for the first time.

So this week on The Plugged In Show, we’ve unpacked what parents can expect from this game: the good, the great, the bad, the ugly. What do you need to know? What safeguards do you need to take of you’ve got a young Roblox-er? If those are questions you’re asking, you’ll want to listen to this week’s show.
