The Plugged In Show, Episode 68: Are You Using Tech’s Parental Controls?

LISTEN TO THE PLUGGED IN SHOW, EPISODE 68

There are plenty of things in life we know we should do: changing our furnace filter; flossing our teeth; eating Brussels sprouts.

But … sometimes even though we know we should, well, we don’t.

And I think lots of us might say the same thing about using parental controls on our computers, streaming services, video game consoles and smartphones. We might have a vague idea that those features are in there somewhere. And we would agree that implementing them would be wise for our kids. But … how? And so, just like that furnace filter from last winter, it doesn’t quite get done.

We’d like to help you with that. In this week’s episode of The Plugged In Show, we’ll talk about the barriers that keep us as parents from implementing these controls. We’ll also discuss the opposite issue: trusting those controls too much. In both cases, what’s needed from us is active, intentional engagement that makes use of the tools at hand to protect our kids, even as we remember that the most important protective “feature” we can engage is deepening our relationship with them.

After you’ve listened to this week’s show, we’d encourage you to check out the links below related to everything we talked about this week.
