LISTEN TO THE PLUGGED IN SHOW, EPISODE 130
In the new Disney+ film Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, Dale leads Chip to Main Street—an apparently charming and colorful avenue where cartoon characters hock their wares. While it seems innocent enough, Dale warns Chip that Main Street is actually the “slimiest contraband backwater bazaar this side of Guadalajara.”
“It’s a bunch of cartoons trading on their wholesome public image to keep the cops away,” he says.
You could say the same thing about today’s teeming mass of adult cartoons.
A couple generations ago, cartoons were considered to be strictly for kids. These days … not so much. And while they vary in quality, even the best can feel inappropriate for children.
Speaking of children, Tom Cruise was just a young ‘un when he starred in Top Gun, the role that catapulted him from mere superstar to bona fide megastar. He’s back in the role once again—certainly older, but is he wiser? Bob Hoose will fill us in on everything we need to know about Top Gun: Maverick, in theaters May 27.
And then we tackle another wildly unfair edition of Pop Culture Connection. Not that I’m bitter.
