The Plugged In Show, Episode 122: We Select Our Plugged In Movie Awards Winners!

LISTEN TO THE PLUGGED IN SHOW, EPISODE 122

Its awards season in the world of entertainment. And what do almost all awards shows have in common? I mean, besides awards? And celebrities? And interminably long runtimes?

Envelopes.

Almost all of them involve envelopes. And inside those envelopes are little cards that bear the name of a given category’s winner.

Of course, to get the winning names on those cards and in those envelopes, someone had to put them there. And that means someone knew who won long before the celebrity read the name. By the time we hear the winner, voting members have hemmed and hawed and debated and discussed and voted. Barring a weird Moonlight/La La Land fiasco, the winner has been decided long before we see the result.

It’s like being served a show-stopping dessert at a fancy restaurant: They trot it out to the table and plop it in front of you. And while that’s great and all, you never see how it comes together—why this won over that.

We at Plugged In do things a bit differently. We want to bring you into the kitchen.

As our annual Plugged In Movie Awards (which we affectionately call the Pluggies) come to a close, we invite you to listen in on our discussion as we choose—right before your ears—what we think were 2021’s very best movies. You can hear us cajole. You can hear us argue. Why, you might even hear us literally pound the table for one of our precious selections as we vote for the top movies in each of four categories: best movie for kids; best movie for teens; best movie for adults; and best Christian movie.

Oh, and now that reader/user voting on the blog, Facebook and Instagram has come to a close, we’ll also be telling who you selected, too.

Now, if you want to just get the PIMA’s version of a finished dessert, don’t despair: We’ll let you know all the winners in this space tomorrow. But if you want to know before anyone else does—if you don’t mind spending a little time in our messy (but fun) kitchen—join us, will you? And then chime in on Facebook and Instagram, or write to us at [email protected].

Oh, and if you need a refresher on the films we nominated or links to anything else we talked about, check out the links below.

  1. -Pleasantly surprised that Bob picked Belle as his favorite. I’m really glad to see growing acceptance of anime as more than “Japanese cartoons”, but as the deeper and more poignant universal stories that they so often (not always, but often) are.
