The only constant in life is change, so they say. And that’s particularly true if part of your life is lived online.
And now change is coming to the Plugged In blog.
No, we’re not going to start flooding the thing with lolcat videos or links to off-shore gambling sites. And none of the Plugged In bloggers are going anywhere. Not even me. (So put a cork back in those champagne bottles.) In fact, at first glance the blog should look much the same. And, as you get used to some of its new little bells and whistles, we’re hoping you’ll see it as a nice improvement.
Here’s what we are doing: We’re switching delivery platforms on Monday, Dec. 10. And that switch could trigger—at least in the short term—a few ripples in the space-time continuum.
First, you might have to forgo your normal “Movie Monday” fix. Given the switch, we may not have full functionality by the time that weekend wrap-up is usually available to you. (But given that the only new movie to come out this weekend is the rather buzz-less Playing for Keeps, perhaps that’s not a massive loss).
Second, regular contributors to our blog will have to register again at www.community.focusonthefamily.com (the link isn’t working now, but I’m told it will be live as of Dec. 10). I know, I know, it’s a bit of an inconvenience. But it could be worse. We won’t make you stand in line or start paying $10 per post or even submit YouTube clips of you singing to re-engage with our site. And just because you have to get a new user name (sign up early so you can secure the same one you had!) doesn’t mean your old comments in existing blog conversations will go away. I’m told they should carry over just fine to the new platform. Thus, your cogent and witty banter will still be around for the world to see; that’s as important to us as it is to you.
Whenever there’s change, there’s also a level of uncertainty, of course. Hopefully we’ll be talking again here on Tuesday … but be patient with us if not. Our blogging mechanics will be hammering the code in shape as fast as they can. And once all the new stuff is up and running and you’re tinkering around with this thing, let us know if you find any bugs that we’ve missed.
As always, thanks for hanging out with us here. It’s always a pleasure to talk with you, and we hope this new technology we’re implementing will make it super easy for us to do much more of that in the months and years to come.
