Do you like animated movies? Turn back the clock just a few years to 2024, and you’ll find a few of the all-time best.
Inside Out 2 was the top-grossing film of the year, and a dynamite movie to boot. Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl might’ve been one of the year’s funniest flicks. And the beautiful, silent Flow won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film.
But in my opinion, The Wild Robot was as good, or better, than them all.
Chris Sanders’ powerful, poignant and visually eye-popping film offered plenty of kid-pleasing characters and lots of laughs. But in a lot of ways, The Wild Robot was made for adults—most especially parents. In fact, the film won a Plugged In Movie Award for the Best Movie for Adults. And let us tell you why.
ROZZUN 7134—better known as Roz—is a robot built to help humans live better lives. But when she crash-lands on an island without people but full of fractious animals, she finds a little gosling who needs a mother. And Roz slowly, imperfectly rewrites her own programming to become that mom.
But for our purposes, she becomes something even more: an echo of Christ.
In the video below, I sit down with longtime Plugged In friend Kristin Smith to talk about The Wild Robot. We don’t agree on much, but we both love this flick. It’s always great to talk about great movies, and I think it’ll be a great watch, too.
And once you’re done watching us talk about The Wild Robot, check out our other Rewind conversations. We’ve got plenty to say.
