The Plugged In Show, Episode 187: Our Romance with AI. Plus, ‘Elemental’

LISTEN TO THE PLUGGED IN SHOW, EPISODE 187

Artificial intelligence? What about artificial infatuation? Truth is, many of us have a certain affection for the technology in our lives. We “love” our phones. We name our smart cars. We converse with chatbots. And with AI growing more sophisticated by the hour, it seems, so potentially grows our attachment.

Is it possible to develop a relationship with a bunch of binary code? Our own Bob Hoose wrote a blog on the topic (“We Love Our AI … But Should We?”) recently, and we use that blog as a springboard for a lively conversation with our lovable, and very real, associates on this episode.

And once we’re done chatting about our relationship with AI, we turn our attention to another romance: the one at the heart of Pixar’s new film Elemental. Emily Tsiao unpacks this literal fire-and-water love story, exploring some of the deeper themes in play and what parents should watch out for. Does this film land in … hot water? Listen in to find out.

Then, of course, we’d love for you to chime in with your own thoughts. Have you seen Elemental? What do you think about our relationship with AI? Let us know on Facebook, Instagram, via email ([email protected]) or by leaving us a voice mail right on The Plugged In Shows landing page. (You’ll find the link to do so on the black tab on the left of your screen.)

Oh, and feel free to check out The Plugged In Show Aftercast on Instagram this (and most every) Monday at 3 p.m. Mountain Time.

  1. Just letting everyone at plugged in know. Marvel just released their newest show yesterday. I just wanted you to know. I usually watch their shows after plugged in reviews them.
