The Plugged In Show, Episode 186: ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ & an Interview With ‘Flamin’ Hot’ Producer Devon Franklin

LISTEN TO THE PLUGGED IN SHOW, EPISODE 186

It’s summer. Well, maybe not technically, not for another week or so. But it’s past Memorial Day. And the kids are all home from school now. It doesn’t get more summer than that, no matter what the calendar says.

And that means it’s time for blockbusters. The big, bombastic, explosive types. Like, say, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. We talk about that one this week, as well as conversing about the pros and cons of these big, loud, pyrotechnical CGI extravaganzas in general.

And in our second segment, I talk with movie producer DeVon Franklin about his latest project, Flamin’ Hot, now streaming on Disney+ and Hulu. It’s the remarkable and inspiring (if a bit profane) story of where Frito-Lay’s spicey Flamin’ Hot products came from.

After you’ve listened to this week’s show, we’d love to hear from you. Did you see Transformers: Rise of the Beasts or Flamin’ Hot? What did you think? You can let us know on Facebook or Instagram, or via email at [email protected].

And we now have another way you can connect with us, too. On The Plugged In Show’s landing page, look for the sideways black tab on the far right—sidling right next to your scrollbar. You can use that to send us a voice message to tell us what you’re thinking. And we might even use that message on a future episode of the show.

Finally, make sure you follow us on Instagram (@pluggedinteam) to get notifications for our new feature The Plugged In Show Aftercast. Each Monday at 3:00 p.m. Mountain Time, two members of our team will spend some time talking about the weekend box office results, as well as receiving your comments about last week’s Plugged In Show and giving a preview of the new show this week. We’d love to have you join us for that live conversation!

  1. -I wasn’t sure whether I was interested in “Transformers,” but after hearing friends say it continues on from Bumblebee more than from the other films, my interest is increasing since I loved “Bumblebee” and only that one.

I’m curious, Plugged In, if and when you review Street Fighter 6, who are you going to pick for your main character? I pick Cammy.

    1. -Thank you, Erik, for writing to Plugged In! We appreciate your taking the time to request our perspective on Street Fighter 6.

We recognize that video games are a large part of our current media culture, and we are adding more and more games to our list of reviews all the time. In fact, we’ve launched an area devoted to games on the Plugged In website at http://www.pluggedin.com. You can find reviews by logging on to http://www.pluggedin.com and typing the name of a game in the white search box located on the “Game Reviews” page. If the Plugged In team hasn’t tackled a particular game in which you’re interested, we encourage to check our site again in the future. Our staff isn’t able to evaluate every release, but new reviews are posted regularly. For general information about video games, we recommend you explore the “Parents’ Guide to Video Games” article series on our website {www.focusonthefamily.com}. We hope this is helpful!
