LISTEN TO THE PLUGGED IN SHOW, EPISODE 132
Sometimes we go weeks without anything super buzzworthy debuting on the big screen or the corresponding small kind. And then, boom! We get two of the biggest TV shows of the year landing on the same day.
I’m talking, of course, about Disney+’s much-anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi and Netflix’s Stranger Things 4, which both premiered on May 27.
Obi-Wan Kenobi explores the fugitive Jedi’s life between the Star Wars movies Revenge of the Sith and the A New Hope (Episodes III and IV, respectively). While we might think from the original Star Wars movie that “Old Ben” was just a desert hermit tending to sand dunes and such, it turns out of lot of nasty Imperial agents wanted him dead.
And then there’s Stranger Things. After three wildly successful seasons in which a misfit group of kids and adults have taken on the supernatural terrors of the Upside Down, you might wonder where they go next. Well, this season definitely doesn’t keep all the action in Hawkins, Indiana. And a big portion of it does indeed revisit that dark, dreaded alternate universe beneath this tormented Midwest town. And speaking of dread and dark, this season definitely pushes the boundaries further into pure horror territory, which families with younger fans will definitely want to be aware of.
So take a listen, and then tells us what you think about this week’s discussion. Have you been watching one or both of these shows? Is Disney+ doing right by a beloved character? Is Stranger Things becoming too dark and grim to watch? You can share your thoughts and experiences on Plugged In’s Facebook and Instagram, or shoot us an email at [email protected]. We’d love to hear from you.
