Plugged In Picks, Movies: Blue Miracle

Let’s get this out of the way first before diving into our Plugged In Picks movie choice this week: Dennis Quaid. Feels like cheating, doesn’t it? I mean, if your two choices are, a) a movie with Dennis Quaid or, b) a movie without Dennis Quaid, which one are you going to pick?

Sure, yeah, I know not everything in Quaid’s career has always been squeaky clean. But the last decade-ish or so, he’s mostly gravitated toward family films and Christian films such as Soul Surfer, A Dog’s Purpose and I Can Only Imagine. All terrific movies, by the way. But not this week’s pick.

Yes, I am going to offer said pick after two paragraphs praising everyman veteran Dennis Quaid. This week’s choice? Blue Miracle. If you haven’t heard of it, well, let me tell you about it. In a nutshell, it’s about a fishing tournament, a big prize and saving an orphanage—and it’s based on a true story, by the way. There’s a smattering of content (a bit of language is the worst of it). But mostly, it’s an engaging story (now streaming on Netflix) about a real-life contest that ended with real-life redemption.

Oh, and Dennis Quaid is in it. If you enjoy his movies as much as I obviously do, be sure to check out not only Emily Clark’s excellent review of this film, but her equally excellent conversation with Quaid and his Blue Miracle co-star Jimmy Gonzales. In fact, to make it easy for you, feel free to check it out right here before you queue up Blue Miracle.
