YouTube Channel Review

Few gaming companies have rosters as recognizable as Nintendo’s. From Mario to Link to Donkey Kong, the company offers plenty of games, characters and products for consumers to connect with, play and enjoy. There are enough characters and titles for someone to focus a whole YouTube channel upon.

That someone is Nathaniel Bandy.

On his eponymous YouTube channel, Bandy reviews a variety of Nintendo games and related software. And when he’s not reviewing, he’s often playing those games with some twists, challenging himself to complete the games while following unique rules or restrictive time limits. Also worth noting, some of Bandy’s uploads merely critique a wide range of features in a game in an intentionally humorous manner.

POSITIVE CONTENT

Bandy’s reviews of some games are primarily meant to be humorous, pointing out the good and bad things in a game, no matter how big or small those details might be. However, he also offers some genuine feedback on a variety of Nintendo games and products that may help inform prospective consumers.

Bandy engages in some gaming challenges that can be fun to watch. For instance, he attempts to see if he can beat all of Super Mario 64 without actually playing as Mario. In another video, Bandy hopes to complete every game in a series within a certain timeframe.

For some of these challenges, Bandy reaches out to others for help on how to overcome certain obstacles, and he’ll often receive the guidance he needs to succeed. For example, when stuck on how to get past a door that would normally end his challenge run, someone online offered support that enabled him to get past it, continuing his run.

CONTENT CONCERNS

Bandy uses some crude language: while the f- and s-words are censored, vulgarities such as “a–,” “h—” and “d–n” are not. God’s name is sometimes used in vain, including instances paired with “d–n.” We likewise heard him take Jesus’ name in vain.

CHANNEL SUMMARY

Nathaniel Bandy, the channel, could be the go-to spot for those who can’t get enough of Nintendo games. But while the channel can be fun and informative, parents should note that Bandy uses a bit of crude language that they likely won’t appreciate quite as much, especially if we’re talking about younger gamers.

Kennedy Unthank

Kennedy Unthank studied journalism at the University of Missouri. He knew he wanted to write for a living when he won a contest for “best fantasy story” while in the 4th grade. What he didn’t know at the time, however, was that he was the only person to submit a story. Regardless, the seed was planted. Kennedy collects and plays board games in his free time, and he loves to talk about biblical apologetics. He thinks the ending of Lost “wasn’t that bad.”
