The Plugged In Show, Episode 176: If I Could Do It All Over Again (Plus ‘On a Wing and a Prayer’)

LISTEN TO THE PLUGGED IN SHOW, EPISODE 176

Hey, we all make mistakes, right? And that might be especially true in this ever-changing entertainment world we live in. It’s not easy to balance what we’d like to watch with what, maybe, we should watch. It’s not simple to keep your kids safe from the dangers of entertainment and technology without overprotecting them. And invariably, we’ll sometimes come down too hard—or too soft.

You’re not alone. Sometimes, even those of us on the Plugged In team struggle to navigate these same choppy waters. If we could get a do-over, what would we, well, do? We’ll tell you about all our biggest media mistakes and what we might do differently if we had another shot at it.

While we’re on the subject of mistakes, Doug White and his family probably thought they made one of their own on Easter Sunday 2009. They chartered a private plane to fly back home. But along the way, the pilot had a heart attack. What is a family to do when it’s stuck 11,000 feet up in the air without someone to fly the plane? We find out in the movie On a Wing and a Prayer, which begins a run on Amazon’s Prime Video starting tomorrow. I had a chance to watch and review the movie, and Adam Holz and I will tell you all about it.

And then it’s your turn to share. What are some of the biggest lessons you’ve learned as parents—and maybe through trial and error? Or if you’re not quite parents yet, tell us something you appreciate about the ways your parents helped you learn to navigate our crazy pop-culture world. Talk to us on Facebook, Instagram or via email ([email protected]).

And, if you make a donation of any amount, we’ll be happy to send you our own Jonathan McKee’s very topical book, If I Had a Parenting Do-Over: 7 Vital Changes I’d Make.
