Movie Tuesday: The Hangover Part II

The box office derby sent us Plugged In movie reviewers searching for Alka-Seltzer over the Memorial Day holiday weekend. It kinda made us feel a little headache-y and sick to our stomachs.

If you’re looking for the reason for our billious angst, look no further than The Hangover Part II, which lorded over the box office like a 350-pound drunken frat boy dancing on the dining room table. The R-rated comedy, which reviewer Bob Hoose said was incredibly, predictably foul, swayed and swerved its way to around $137.4 million over the lengthy holiday weekend (if you just count the traditional Friday-through-Sunday swing, the romp pocketed around $86 million). Just its three-day total was enough to set a record (highest weekend gross for an R-rated comedy ever), and it tallied about twice what second-place entrant Kung Fu Panda 2 scored—despite a pretty favorable review by yours truly. Clearly, more people need to download our app.

Holdovers Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Bridesmaids and  Thor finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

I’m sure there’s more I could say about all this. But frankly, I kinda feel like crawling back in bed now. Wake me when X-Men: First Class opens next week.
