Hard work pays off.
It’s a phrase many use to motivate themselves to success. And this week, the phrase had some merit. That’s because A Working Man—featuring Jason Statham in a Taken-styleplot—snatched a first-place victory at the box office this weekend. It took home $15.2 million.
Snow White drifted off to second place with a 66% drop in gross earnings from last week. It’s evident that the slumbering protagonist isn’t the only one the movie is putting to sleep. The film mined out just $14.2 million this weekend.
Meanwhile, The Chosen: The Last Supper—Part One proves that Christian content can still overturn the tables of an increasingly secular culture. The two-episode early release for The Chosen’s fifth season earned third place with $11.5 million.
The horror film The Woman in the Yard took fourth place with $9.45 million. And while its earnings weren’t exactly rainbows and sunshine, Death of a Unicorn did manage to skewer fifth place with $5.8 million in earnings.
You may notice that four out of the five top earners (all but Snow White) were new releases. It’s ironic, then, that the only new release this weekend to not take flight was The Penguin Lessons. The film waddled into an 11th-place finish with $1.2 million.
