Dune: Parts One & Two—Plugged In Rewind

dune

When the Oscar nominations came out last week, the Best Picture category was populated by a lot of pics that … no one ever saw. Of the 10 films that garnered noms, only two earned more than $100 million at the global box office: Wicked ($710.5 million and counting, according to GoldDerby) and Dune: Part Two ($714.6 million).

Dune: Part Two racked up five Oscar nominations in total—half of what Dune: Part One did. But Adam Holz and I both think that the second part was better.

Why? Well, we’ll tell you why in this deep-dive conversation. We’ll unpack the movie’s myriad themes, too: its socio-political undertones, its religious musings and just what’s up with those crazy, crazy sandworms. So strap on a stillsuit and settle in for our freewheeling talk, won’t you? We promise it’ll be a spicy conversation.
