TV Series Review

Boss Baby has finally adjusted to his life in the Templeton household.

As vice president of the conglomerate Baby Corp., Boss Baby wasn’t so sure he’d get along well with the rest of the Templeton clan. After all, family is far messier and way more unpredictable than office duties, meetings and spreadsheets. But the longer he’s spent with Mom, Dad and big brother Tim, the easier it’s been for him to adjust to the comforts of home.

Plus, his job sort of requires that he make this whole family thing work. But it’s not a simple task. While he might get soft blankies, cuddles and three-square bottles a day, Boss Baby still has plenty of, ahem, duties, to keep him occupied. Like making sure that babies across the world stay the cutest, most lovable creatures on the face the planet.

Realistically that shouldn’t be a difficult feat, but there are plenty of people and organizations that want to highlight the bad side of babies—emphasizing the criers that they really are. And it’s up to the genius of Boss Baby, his infant colleagues Staci and Jimbo, and big brother Tim Templeton to keep the love for babies at a constant high.

The Real Boss, Baby

Boss Baby: Back in Business is Netflix’s animated series and spinoff from DreamWorks’ 2017 flick: The Boss Baby.

This animated children’s series is full of witty humor, loving family moments and plenty of good-natured lessons. Kids can learn about the value of family, the importance of time spent with those we love and the necessity of order amidst chaos.

But it wouldn’t be surprising if your littles learn a bit of sass as well. They’ll certainly be exposed to it here. Boss Baby is, mentally, an adult and he’s also quite bossy. He works in a corporation filled with little tykes who each have their fair share of meltdowns and tantrums. And Boss Baby’s big brother, Tim Templeton, is known, just like the babies, to lose his cool and throw out insults like “stupid” and “moron.”

Additionally, there are a few “villains” that find their way to the screen. But they’re never scary and mostly consist of an upset grandparent or crazy cat. Oh, and expect some potty humor as well. So even though you might hear more bossing than you’d like, chances are that your kids will be laughing along for each 24-minute episode. And if you listen in, you’ll probably find yourself chuckling as well.

Episode Reviews

March 10, 2010: “Bossa Nova”

Boss Baby gets fired from Baby Corp. and struggles to understand who he is now that he’s no longer the vice president.

Babies throw tantrums, cry, scream and shove one another. Tim throws a pencil in anger. Boss Baby jokes about a hot dog dying. A baby is referred to as a “tushy kicker.” A baby says she will “spit on a kitten” in honor of Boss Baby’s departure.

The new CEO of Baby Corp yells at his employees (each time he yells he utters “profanities” that we hear instead as baby-like screeches). A parent is referred to as “dumb,” a “moron” and a “liar.” Tim says the word “stupid” multiple times.
