YouTube Channel Review

Nathanial Peterson, known to fans as “Coyote” Peterson, is a 39-year-old man known for putting out educational, adventure-filled videos on his YouTube channel, Brave Wilderness, that focus on learning about all sorts of animals in their natural habits.

He started his channel in 2014 and now hosts multiple sub-series on the channel, such as: Dragon Tails, Beyond the Tide, On Location, Coyote’s Backyard and Breaking Trail. Each segment is designed to focus on different creatures and, of course, provides up-close and personal animal encounters. Kids can even become “Brave Crew Members” and get exclusive deals for $0.99 a month, giving access to premium content.

A National Geographic-esque channel, Coyote reaches out to kids of all ages with wild, entertaining material that encourages them to get outdoors and to learn about nature. Along with his crew members and friends Mark Vins and Mario Aldecoal, budding nature explorers have the opportunity to experience nature in a clean, positive way.

Positive Content

Kids learn about various types of reptiles, insects, amphibians, aquatic creatures, mammals, biomes, ecosystems and elements of nature.

A few segments focus on “vocabulary words” kids can memorize as they learn about different species.

Content Concerns

We hear “gosh” and “oh my goodness” occasionally.

Coyote and his friends sometimes perform dangerous stunts to get close to an animal (although, always with a disclaimer). Coyote is famous for subjecting himself to various animal bites and stings for the experience.

Channel Summary

Videos teach kids about different animals, often going to extreme measures to get an up-close and personal experience

Note: Plugged In’s YouTube channel reviews are not exhaustive summaries of everything viewers will find, but a representative sample of recent videos to give you a sense of the kinds of things you might expect to see.
