Album Review

Kane Brown has been taunting fans on his social media platforms with a new track he’s recently released called “One Mississippi.”

This country-pop tune, a product of his new song-publishing company Verse 2 Music, is heavy on the fiddle. And it’s all about a couple who, although they’re through, can’t stop resparking the same flame they’ve repetitively smothered.

POSITIVE CONTENT

There’s some genuine emotional wrestling taking place between two people who honestly can’t seem to make up their minds about whether they want to be together or not.

CONTENT CONCERNS

But that’s where anything  “positive” ends and the problems begin.

This song is about a guy who continually bumps into his ex-girlfriend, typically “at this bar” where multiple shots “of whiskey” lead to “kissin’” and “playin’ roulette with our hearts.” In other words, their dysfunctional relationship is reinforced by poor choices they’re making in other areas of their lives, too.

The music video includes a couple who kiss in bed (most of which is blurred as the camera moves quickly through scenes) and drink together.

TRACK SUMMARY

This is an extremely catchy song, thanks to Kane Brown who is known for his ability to skillfully merge multiple genres.

But earworm or not, the premise here is about a couple who can’t decide if they really like one another, or if drunken nights and poor decisions are the only thing keeping their flame alive.
