Album Review

Everything that we encounter in life shapes us in some way. On his single “Part Of It,” country singer Jordan Davis shares some of the negative and positive experiences that have impacted his life, and how they’ve grown him into the man he is today.

POSITIVE CONTENT

Davis sings about memorable moments that have greatly impacted his life, such as highschool heartbreak (“Daddy said, ‘I know ya thought she was the one/And it ain’t no fun, but son that’s part of it’”), his grandfather’s passing (“Granddaddy cut his teeth, planted that seed across eighty acres of land/… I just about broke down when I found out he went and left me part of it”) and marrying his wife followed by becoming a father (“Heartbreaks faded … /Met the love of my life, gave me two more/And I don’t know who I’d be if they weren’t part of it”).

Each of these experiences, even the painful ones, has become a “story” that he’s able to look back on with clarity (“Ya’ live and learn and good ones go/You find out on down the road/When you lay it all out and get down to the heart of it/Man, that’s just life and that’s all part of it, yeah”).

CONTENT CONCERNS

Davis says that there will be moments in life that “hurt like h—” and leave you with emotional scars.

TRACK SUMMARY

Jordan Davis sings this song as advice that he received from his father–advice which taught Davis that every single moment in life, whether good or bad, shapes us. Ultimately, our experiences–and our memories of them–weave together to write the story of our life.
