Album Review

Rap queen Cardi B and pop icon Bruno Mars first joined forces in last year’s remix of Mars’ song “Finesse.” Now they’ve reunited for a second collaboration: the sensual single “Please Me.”

This slow, silky R&B jam fuses Mars’ smooth vocals with Cardi B’s trademark rapid-fire rap, as well as sampling a section of “Freek’n You” by Jodeci. And the song gets right to the point: Laced with provocative lyrics and tantalizing teases, sex is the only thing on anyone’s mind here.

Nothing Left to the Imagination

Bruno Mars’ sizzling and sultry contribution to this steamy song is more suggestive than explicit. He begins by telling his significant other, “Please me, baby/Turn around and just tease me, baby/You know what I want and what I need, baby.”

Cardi B, in contrast, responds with lines that, for the most part, are almost all too graphic to be reprinted here. Among the lines we can quote is this one: “I take my time with it, bring you close to me.” From there, the rapper’s raunchy rhymes sink into pornographic territory as she sings explicitly about her anatomy and various sexual acts, with f- and s-words tossed in along the way.

And in typical Cardi B style, she also issues her usual warning to haters, bragging that her sexual prowess and experience top that of any potential rival: “Broke b—-es watch out now (Watch out).”

Nothing Left to Say

Bruno and Cardi have yet to release a video for this sensual song, though the official artwork for the track pictures Cardi in a revealing outfit as she leans suggestively toward Bruno, while holding a lollipop.

Beyond that, there’s not much more to say. “Please Me” is explicit in every way, and it doesn’t leave much to the imagination. Bruno Mars once again unleashes his seductive trademark tenor, but this song’s catchy chorus definitely isn’t one that you’ll want stuck in your head.
