Are you someone who scrolls through YouTube, and then realizes you’ve somehow been on the platform for way too long? Or maybe that’s your kids? Either way, we at Plugged In want to give you and your family choices that aren’t filled with problematic content. Of course, no channel is perfect, but some really are worth exploring.
Sort of like the YouTube channel MattyBRaps.
At the age of 7, Matthew David Morris uploaded his first ever cover of a popular Justin Bieber track, and within a week his video received more than half a million views. Ten years later and this now young adult has over 14 million YouTube subscribers and is known for his covers, as well creating videos for his own original songs. He’s been on talk shows, collaborated with big names and has even landed a song on Billboard’s charts.
How did a such a young kid explode to popularity? Well, much of it has to do with this young man’s talent. But there’s more to it than that. Unlike many rap and hip-hop artists, MattyBRaps sets himself and his music apart by creating songs without profanity. Matty attributes this to his Christian faith, which he even sings about in numerous videos. And that’s not all: A lot of his videos also deal with battling temptation, making good choices, choosing kindness, loving family and encouraging those who are down.
These are all great topics. But, like I said, the channel isn’t perfect. If you’re looking for something for toddlers or littles, this probably isn’t ideal, as Matty does joke about the pains of curfew and focuses on girls and crushes in a lot of his music videos.
