Movie Monday: ‘Hoppers’ Clones Another Box Office Win

Despite two newcomers, no one could overcome Hoppers’ lead.

The Pixar movie took first place with $28.5 million this weekend, which brings its domestic total to $86.8 million. And around the globe, Hoppers enjoys a cool $164.7 million gross—making it the Hoover Dam of movies this week.

And, speaking of Hoovers, Hoppers’ earnings were far too large for the Colleen Hoover adaptation, Reminders of Him. Despite a debut at $18.3 million among American audiences, the sensual rom-dram just couldn’t beat Pixar’s animated animal robot. Still, it earned second place. And worldwide, the movie has accumulated $28.2 million.

If you listen hard enough, you’ll discern the movie in third place: Undertone. This horror movie opened to $9.3 million domestically—with no reported numbers for overseas earnings.

In the same genre—but perhaps the opposite of anything called UndertoneScream 7 fell from second to fourth following the debut of the two aforementioned movies. It scared another $8.4 million out of American audiences. That brings its domestic cume to $106.5 million and on the verge of becoming the Scream franchise’s highest earning film. Around the globe, the masked killer has taken, in total, $177 million.

And rounding out the top five, GOAT managed to hold on for another week. The animated sports flick sold 4.7 million dollars’ worth of tickets to Americans, bringing its domestic cume to $90.6 million. Taking into account its international earnings, and GOAT clops that number up to $162.8 million.

Looking down the list at other recent releases, 1991’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze re-released in theaters for its 35th anniversary—and audiences shelled out $1.5 million to see it. That number earned the film eighth place. And Slanted debuted in 14th place with $617,000.
