Numerous tracks exalt love and devotion as a basic human need worth fighting for (“To Be Loved by You”), sacrificing and praying for (“Heaven Help My Heart”) and making oneself vulnerable for (“Somebody to Love You”). “Love by Grace” celebrates commitment as one half of a quarrelling couple returns home to mend the relationship. “Dance! Shout!” points to Jesus as a faithful friend worthy of praise.
“Old Enough to Know Better,” about a woman’s inability to resist a man, could be based on the country diva’s own poor decisions which led to an out-of-wedlock pregnancy.
While lyrically sound, much of Wynonna’s comeback album rings hollow in light of the moral compromises she made public at the time of its release. Otherwise, Revelations is a solid pick.
