Album Review

Pro-Social Content

A romance in trouble is considered worth fixing on “Bring It Low.” People consumed by bitterness, anger, hatred and jaded bliss get a pat on the back and the assurance that a better day is coming (“Shell of a Man,” “Congratulations”). “Everything” claims that love is “a bond without reason,” the motivation for living, trying and dying. “Into the Dark” is a cautionary tale of a prodigal who rejects parental advice and adopts a lifestyle of lies. Lead singer Brett Detar—formerly of the Christian metal band Zao—apologizes for letting people down (“As It Stands”), empathizes with someone in pain (“The Hardest Things”) and stresses the need for healthy communication (“In Conversation”).

Objectionable Content

While not meant to be taken literally, lines such as “We’ll tear your heart right out of your chest” and “We are the thorn in your side and the bullet to blow you apart” mire “Trance” in violent metaphors.

Summary Advisory

One hiccup, but for the most part these five guys stay focused and positive while they rock out.
