Movie Monday: ‘Other Mommy’ Scares Up a Win

Critics hated it. But that didn’t stop audiences from flocking to Other Mommy, the latest horror movie to make headlines in 2026.

Despite logging a dismal 17% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the Jessica Chastain-fronted fright flick earned an estimated $27.5 million in North America, cruising to the weekend’s box-office victory and more than doubling the earnings of its nearest competitor. Add the $17.7 million that the film earned overseas and Other Mommy’s worldwide gross stands at a truly frightening $45.2 million. That’ll put a smile on its makers’ faces.

Verity, last weekend’s box-office champion, slid to No. 2 with an $11.5 million domestic take. That pushes the thriller’s running total to $53.9 million in North America and nearly $114 worldwide.

Another horror film, Resident Evil, finished third and continues to rack up frightful earnings. It banked another $8.4 million stateside this weekend, hiking its overall domestic tally to $138.5 million. It also officially became the biggest global moneymaker in the Resident Evil franchise, its worldwide gross of $320.2 million shrieking past 2016’s ironically named Resident Evil: The Final Chapter and its $312.2 million in global earnings.

Heart of the Beast clawed its way into fourth place with $7.1 million. The Brad Pitt flick has now earned $49.7 million domestically over its three-week run.

Meanwhile, The Social Reckoning faced a reckoning of its own. The Social Network sequel didn’t manage a lot of likes from moviegoers, earning just $5.5 million to finish fifth. Still, it performed better than Angel and the Badman, which collected just $2.1 million for a ninth-place finish.
