TV Series Review

There’s a first time for everything. And in this Netflix show, the Wonderoos navigate all those everythings. As the show says, they “wonder what to do” so you don’t have to!

Roo City is home to Luly the rabbit, Hazzy the elephant, Teshi the turtle, Dewey the dog and Kiki the kitten. These five friends call themselves the Wonderoos, and they experience pivotal kid life events for the first time: Hazzy has his first bathroom emergency; Kiki gets her first sunburn; and Teshi waits in his first long line. It’s the Wonderoos’ goal to show young viewers what to do when they encounter these new experiences, too.

In each 14-minute episode, one of the Wonderoos encounters a problem for the first time. The Wonderoo considers two options for how to handle the problem. When the first option fails, the Wonderoo realizes the mistake, goes back in time and makes the right choice. At the end of each episode, the Wonderoos commemorate their new knowledge by earning a “wonder badge” and singing a celebratory song.

WONDERING WHAT YOU SHOULD DO?

Wonderoos teaches young children positive messages about making practical and kind choices. Episodes teach kids lessons about honesty, patience and self-control, and the animals in the Wonderoos crew display positive friendships with each other.

Occasionally, the animals make silly noises—such as snoring or trumpet sounds—that some families might interpret as inappropriate. And the first episode of Wonderoos is about a bathroom emergency. Still, Wonderoos offers kid-friendly entertainment, and it gives children tools to address unfamiliar situations with a degree of positive independence.

July 15, 2024 – S1, E1: “First Potty Accident”

Hazzy the elephant is excited to spend a “pajama day” in the park with his friends. But when he has a bathroom emergency, Hazzy learns the importance of listening to his body.

Throughout the episode, Hazzy needs to relieve himself. He often dances and makes grunting noises to express his discomfort. Eventually, Hazzy has an accident in his pajama pants. Later, Hazzy learns the importance of using the restroom before an emergency. He goes into a bathroom stall, and we hear the toilet flush.

Some characters make silly noises like snoring and trumpeting sounds. A character says the phrase “abso-toot-ly.” Characters repeatedly use the word “pee” to describe their restroom emergencies. Hazzy’s friends bump bellies as a greeting gesture.

July 15, 2024 – S1, E2: “First Time Making New Friends”

Kiki the kitty is new to Roo City, and she hopes to find friends. With the help of the Wonderoos, Kiki learns how to introduce herself and play with new pals.
