Girlie Gaming

Hello there, blogging Plugged Inners. I recently posted a brief article called The Girls of Gaming that I wanted to point out to you. And I do so not because I desperately want you to read all things Hoose … though I suppose I do. But more importantly, I’m hoping to get a little feedback.

Even though at first glance it may look like the feature is discussing the female characters in games, that’s really only a tiny part of the article. Most of it is dedicated to those gaming gals, those button-mashing belles who enjoy playing video games. You know who you are. There are quite a few of you out there—more than most people expect. And I think you’ve made a very positive contribution to the gaming industry at large. Girl gamers have without question been instrumental in promoting a softer side of gaming.

Now, I’m not trying to say that guys are drooling Cro-Magnons who only want to kill-kill-kill with a controller in hand and girls only like to go shopping with their virtual video game Barbie. I know there are men and women playing all types of games. But I truly believe that the female influence has given rise to the whole Wii Sports-style casual gaming trend. And that’s a really good thing, in my opinion. At least game producers now realize that they can create something other than bloody shooters and still capture a sizable chunk of the gaming financial pie.

Anyway, back to the feedback part. I’d love to hear what you think about girls and games. We at Plugged In can always use some solid input from those of you who are living the stuff that we write about. In fact, I’d love to hear from you ladies who really enjoy playing video games. What kinds of games are your favorites? What would you like to see woven into tomorrow’s games? How many guys have you skunked playing Madden NFL?

Well … you can skip that last one. Don’t want to bruise any male egos.

He is also one of our primary movie reviewers.
