In the realm of Top 10 listicle channels on YouTube, none stand quite as tall as WatchMojo.com.
The channel and video content publisher was started by Ashkan Karbasfrooshan, Raphael Daigneault, and Christine Voulieris in 2006. However, the company didn’t begin to see much success until they shifted almost exclusively to Top 10 videos on YouTube in 2012. The switch ended up being a major success: Today, the channel boasts roughly 26 million subscribers. Its top video, “Top 10 Bruce Lee Moments,” has 99 million views.
And they’re not shy on content, either: the channel uploads “six or more fresh lists published daily,” according to its YouTube bio. To date, that’s brought the channel to over 30 thousand uploads. That’s a whole lot of listicles!
But, as we’ll soon discover, many of their lists aren’t safe for kids or teens at all.

POSITIVE CONTENT
The occasional ranking video focuses on more positive things, such as the most satisfying movie endings. These videos stand in contrast to the channel’s many other negatively focused lists (“Top 10 Worst…”) or rankings of graphic material.
Say what you will about the content below, but to its credit, subscribers to WatchMojo.com know what they’re going to get: For more than a decade, the channel has tirelessly delivered Top 10 lists to dedicated viewers. What’s more, we noticed that many of the lists were based upon timely topics, such as recent movie releases or news.
CONTENT CONCERNS
Sexual content isn’t hard to find on the channel; some of its most-viewed videos have titles such as “Top 10 Hilarious Movie Sex Scenes” and “Top 10 Sexiest Music Videos.” And in videos such as these, we see men and women from movies in their underwear or lingerie. We also see naked rears and moments that reveal the majority of women’s breasts (usually barely censored by the WatchMojo logo).
One movie scene graphically depicts a man’s painful experience zipping his pants and catching a critical bit of his anatomy instead. Some thumbnails depict (particularly women) dressed in revealing clothing. Though one video on the channel decries 10 movies that have used the sex appeal of female actresses to boost their ratings, the channel seems to have no qualms appropriating the same subject matter for its own gain.
Violence likewise appears in videos such as “Top 10 Hilarious Movie Deaths” and “Top 10 Dumbest Decisions in Horror Movies.” It isn’t uncommon to see ample blood and gore, and so we see a variety of horrific deaths: decapitations, gunshots and stabbings included. Other listicles delve into violent real-life topics such as facts about serial killers or historical violent crimes.
The channel’s lists also deal with a variety of supernatural or religious topics, including popes, prophecies and the paranormal. Included in many of these videos are depictions of Christianity alongside cults and other religions.
Early videos uploaded before WatchMojo.com found its listicle niche depict how to make a variety of cocktails.
We hear a variety of crude words, including the s-word, “c-ck,” “d–k,” “a–,” “b–ch,” “h—” and “douchebag.” The f-word, when used, is censored. We also heard Jesus’ name taken in vain.
CHANNEL SUMMARY
Subscribers to WatchMojo.com will likely never run out of content to watch. As of posting, if I were to watch every video uploaded in the last 24 hours alone, it’d take me three and a half hours just to get through every second (and there would surely be another video or two uploaded by the time I was done)!
But all that content isn’t exactly a good thing. Many of the lists here are adult-oriented in nature, whether it’s due to near nudity, graphic violence or the harsh language in some videos. While it is true that some videos don’t contain any of these elements (as they’re largely dependent on what topic the list covers), plenty others do—and are only a click away via a sensual thumbnail.
Kennedy Unthank
Kennedy Unthank studied journalism at the University of Missouri. He knew he wanted to write for a living when he won a contest for “best fantasy story” while in the 4th grade. What he didn’t know at the time, however, was that he was the only person to submit a story. Regardless, the seed was planted. Kennedy collects and plays board games in his free time, and he loves to talk about biblical apologetics. He’s also an avid cook. He thinks the ending of Lost “wasn’t that bad.”
