YouTube Channel Review
Hypothetically, let’s imagine you were a big fan of the anime series Attack on Titan.
If you were, you may have been excited to hear about the show’s second season being released. But you also may have been confused. After all, the first season released in 2013. The second season didn’t come out until 2017.
That’s a long enough period of time to forget every important detail necessary for getting back into the show! Fortunately for you, Man of Recaps has you covered.
As the name implies, the channel features a man (whose real world identity seems to be top-secret information) in the bottom right corner of videos, dubbed the “Man of Recaps,” as he explains every important character and plot point in a given show. Behind him, clips from the series play. And by the end of the video, you’ll theoretically be ready to dive back into the next season of your favorite franchise.
POSITIVE CONTENT
Man of Recaps can be a helpful way for viewers to get back into a show when a new season arrives. Sometimes, TV series can span years between season releases, and it’s easy to forget all that’s happened in that time. Man of Recaps provides detailed and succinct summaries that’ll get people back up to speed for their favorite shows.
Man of Recaps likewise summarizes content in series order. In other words, those who watch his videos won’t need to worry about him spoiling future plot points. Instead, he “reacts” to them as they come up in the narrative, so as long as viewers don’t watch his videos beyond what they’ve already seen before, nothing will be spoiled for them.
CONTENT CONCERNS
Most of the issues on Man of Recaps YouTube channelstem from the content of particular TV shows he’s summarizing.
For instance, he summarizes M-rated series such as Breaking Bad, The Boys and Game of Thrones. So when Game of Thrones shows a naked person, Man of Recaps shows that person, too—albeit with small censor bars which hide most—but not all—of that nudity. Likewise, some sex scenes are shown as far as YouTube will allow them. People are seen in underwear, too.
Similarly, when Man of Recaps covers gory series such as The Boys or The Walking Dead, we often see character deaths and blood (though he is forced to hide some scenes due to YouTube’s content restrictions on gore).
Heavier profanities are censored. However, uncensored foul language includes “a–,” “b–ch,” “d–n,” “d–k” and “wh-re.” Likewise, we hear a couple of misuses of God’s name, including pairings with “d–n.”
CHANNEL SUMMARY
Man of Recaps does a stellar job of summarizing the plots of many TV shows. And while some of the shows he covers are crude, most of the channel’s content is dependent on what show you’re choosing to watch. So, if you’re watching his recap of The Boys, you’ll be forced to deal with him describing all the crude content that comes with that show. But for shows with lighter content concerns, Man of Recaps’ summaries will follow suit.
Kennedy Unthank
Kennedy Unthank studied journalism at the University of Missouri. He knew he wanted to write for a living when he won a contest for “best fantasy story” while in the 4th grade. What he didn’t know at the time, however, was that he was the only person to submit a story. Regardless, the seed was planted. Kennedy collects and plays board games in his free time, and he loves to talk about biblical apologetics. He thinks the ending of Lost “wasn’t that bad.”
