TV Series Review

Johnny Bolt is sick of his small town.

He lives with his single mother who is only mildly OK with his existence (so long as he stays out of her way), and he attends a high school where popularity is out of reach. Simply put, Johnny is desperate for a change.

And that change comes when Johnny accidentally finds that he has the ability to control and manipulate electricity. He begins harnessing his powers in the hopes that he will be able to join the upright, famous superheroes known as the Union of Justice.

That dream feels within reach, until one day Johnny loses his temper and accidentally electrocutes a group of swimmers in a nearby pool. Defeated, Johnny retreats to wallow in guilt and to escape any possible consequences. But his guilt doesn’t last long. Johnny soon finds that his powers can do far more than control lights and electrocute swimmers. They can also make cash slide out of ATMs. Cha-ching!

One accidental payday later and Johnny is now convinced that being a morally conscious superhero isn’t for him. Instead, he pushes those dreams aside, embraces a life of crime and finds himself exiting prison as an adult.

You’d think that Johnny would clean up his act as an ex-convict. But he and his manipulative girlfriend, Kasey, are just getting started. Their new goal is to seize the opportunity of a lifetime: rake in mounds of cash by stealing from a supervillain.

Netflix and Anime Meet Again

Netflix is, once again, diving deep into the world of Anime with its latest release: Super Crooks. This Japanese series, written by Mark Millar, focuses its first episode on a young Johnny who is just finding what it’s like to possess superpowers. Then, it flashes to Johnny as a very “mature” adult. And this is where you’ll find most of the content.

This MA-rated show includes animated nudity, sex, graphic conversations about sex, language and plenty of gore and violence. Although you’ll not see an excess of this in the first episode, just know that nothing improves as things go on–not the morality nor the crooked storyline.

Nov. 25, 2021: “Electro Boy”

Johnny finds that he has the ability to control electricity and he spends his spare moments learning to harness his superpower, until a tragic accident forces him to rethink how he uses his newfound gift.

Johnny accidentally electrocutes a pool full of teens and young kids; some are injured while others, apparently dead, float with blood pouring from their noses and mouths. Multiple automobiles crash into buildings and some catch fire and explode.

Johnny’s mother goes into Johnny’s room and violently grabs his ear and shouts at him to not ruin her chance to relieve a “dry spell.” We see his mother kissing a man and later we see thrusting motions between the two as they talk about ejaculation. Johnny’s mother tries to seduce a repairman with her cleavage. A high school boy taunts Johnny and his friend for being virgins. Girls wear crop tops and bikinis.
