During the last few months of his senior year of highschool, Greg, unfocused and uncaring about college and career, looks onlyas far into the future as prom night. Although his parents encourage highereducation, Greg prefers daydreaming (“trippin’”) to becoming responsible.His daydreams are mostly sexual in nature. However, he also fantasizesabout violently subduing his enemies. Eventually, Greg applies for college,is accepted, and wins the girls of his dreams (Maia) at the senior prom.
Positive Elements: While the positive elements in no way justifythis tasteless flick, there is an understood message that college is importantand family life has value. At one point, one of Greg’s friends refusesto sell drugs for easy money.
Spiritual Content: None.
Sexual Content: In Greg’s sexual daydreaming, he pictures himselfbeing seduced by a bikini-clad woman who unbuttons her skimpy top, invitinghim to kiss her breasts (clearly visible). One scene finds Greg’s malefriend June and a girl involved in foreplay in a bedroom at a party (keepin mind these are seniors in high school). June pours chocolate and whippedcream down the girl’s back. She is wearing only a g-string. Another friendof Greg’s (Fish) boasts that he “pulled [had sex with] Vanessa” only toget “the put down” that it was only because “she was drunk.” When discussingthe future with his friends, June says he wants to start his own 900 hotline,Fish wants to “hit [have sex with] a different girl every night.” WhenFish realizes that a girl is going to have sex with him he asks Greg fora condom. Greg hands him one in a badly wrinkled package and the two exchangewords. A subtitle at the film’s end lets viewers know that Greg eventuallyhas sex with her. While dancing to “Hump,” prom attendees frequently simulatesexual activity.
Violent Content: In his fantasy life, Greg pictures himself asa Rambo-like character who kills his enemies in a restaurant. He forcesa beef rib bone in the forehead of one while throwing another on a hotfryer-grill. Greg wakes up just before the man on the grill is choppedup with a meat cleaver. When called an “ugly b–ch” by Fish, a girl retaliatesby punching him. A drug dealer tries to pressure Greg and his friends tosell drugs by threatening June with a knife to his throat. Greg’s brotherplays violent video games. Two boys get into a fight at the prom.
Crude or Profane Language: F-words and s-words abound especiallyin the daydream sequences. Racial epithets are also used frequently. Eventhe parents have gutter mouths.
Drug and Alcohol Content: Drinking is part of the activitiesat a senior party. As mentioned in “Sexual Content” a friend of Greg’sboasts that he had sex with a girl, only to get “the put down” that itwas only because “she was drunk.”
Other Negative Elements: Greg frequently lies to make himselflook good.
Summary: Obscenities. Teenage sex. Sexual daydreams. Violentfantasies. Plenty of reason to steer clear.
