The Plugged In Show, Episode 208: The Marvels & Female Heroes in Action Movies. Plus ‘Trolls Band Together’

LISTEN TO THE PLUGGED IN SHOW, EPISODE 208

The Marvels roared into the theaters last weekend—and into The Plugged In Show podcast this week. Despite a lot of press, it didn’t make a positive impression on critics and fans, who mostly shrugged and said, “Meh.” In fact, The Marvels’ opening-weekend domestic total of just $47 million was the lowest ever among the 33 MCU movies thus far. Yikes!

But was it really that bad? We’ll give you Plugged In’s impressions of the film, as well as unpacking the trend of female heroes getting top billing in a growing number of action movies these days.

But we’re not done yet. Oh, no.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner. And that means the holiday movie season is about to commence in earnest. We’ll tell you everything you need to know about another franchise flick hoping to lure families into the multiplex after turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie: Trolls Band Together. Will this sequel prompt spontaneous expressions of joyful thanks after your family sees it? We’ll address that question in our second segment.

As always, we’d love to hear from you, too, about what we talk about each week on The Plugged in Show.

With that in mind, you can connect us several different ways. The comments section below is one way. Or shoot us an email at [email protected]. And if you head over to our podcast homepage, thepluggedinshow.com, you’ll find a black ribbon on the right-hand side of the page where you can leave us a voicemail with your thoughts—we might even feature your audio message on a future show. And, of course, Facebook and Instagram are options, too.

So let us know what’s on your mind when it comes to movies and entertainment, pop culture and technology. We’ll look forward to connecting with you.
