Plugged In Picks, Movies: A Week Away

I know what you’re thinking. I’ve wondered, too: Why can’t someone make a Camp Rock-like Christian musical? You know, a terrific story about a wary teen who’s struggled in the foster care system but who goes to camp and finds Jesus and a forever family to boot. Maybe a story with some light romance and a throwback CCM soundtrack featuring Steven Curtis Chapman (“Saddle up your horses!”), Michael W. Smith and Amy Grant. And one that anyone with Netflix can stream right now.

I know, that wish list feels pretty specific. Maybe even demanding.

Wait, what? There IS such a film? And it’s streaming on Netflix RIGHT NOW? Feels like Christmas in April, doesn’t it?

That movie, as you probably already noticed from the title, is A Week Away. If you’re not familiar with it, be sure to check out Emily Clark’s full review. She writes that the film gives us “a great story demonstrating what happens when Christians do life together. … Teens who attend Camp Aweegaway might be a week away from having their lives changed, but viewers who watch A Week Away are only an hour and a half away from the same.”

A Week Away is the kind of movie we often say we want Hollywood to make. So if you’re looking for a fun, toe-tapping, inspirational story to enjoy with your family this weekend, A Week Away is our Plugged In Pick for you. And if you get done and decide you want even more of this story, be sure to check out Emily’s interview with star Bailee Madison on our Plugged In YouTube page as well.

OK, I’m going to go listen to Steven Curtis Chapman now.
