If movie theaters were hen houses, Zootopia 2 was the fox that broke in and gorged itself.
The film easily stole the top spot at the box office this long Thanksgiving weekend from Wicked 2. The animated sequel gobbled up $156 million since its Wednesday release in American theaters. Internationally, the movie found a golden goose in that hen house, banking another $400.4 million. That brings its opening total to a staggering $556.4 million.
And despite a few new releases, the remainder of our top five follows the same order as last week—just shifted down a spot. That means Wicked 2 found itself obeying gravity by falling from first to second. Its earnings in the United States over the long weekend came to $93 million, bringing its domestic total to $270.4 million. Its worldwide cume rests at $393.3 million.
Now You See Me: Now You Don’t likewise shifted down to third, one spot closer to being knocked into “now you don’t see me” territory. This time, it brought in $10.1 million, raising its domestic earnings to $49.7 million. Worldwide, the movie has taken in $187 million.
Fourth place goes to Predator: Badlands, who bagged an additional $6.6 million on its American hunting grounds. That raises its domestic earnings to $85 million. Factoring in its overseas expeditions, the movie has brought in $173.7 million in total.
Rounding out the top five is The Running Man, who raised $5.5 million running off all that turkey. In the United States, that brings its earnings to $34.2 million. Its worldwide cume comes in at $60.5 million.
Looking down the list at newcomers, Eternity realized that its idea of heaven was only worth a sixth-place finish. Despite releasing on Wednesday, it brought in a mere $5.2 million in total. Meanwhile, Hamnet found that, whether it wanted “to be or not to be” in eighth place, it ultimately had no choice in the matter—it earned $1.4 million.
Perhaps most surprising was Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery’s lackluster performance. Despite previous entries in the franchise doing relatively well, this one found itself gutted at 11th. Despite the five-day weekend, it only managed to detect $1 million in American pockets.
