Last weekend, every movie on the box office woke up, got out of bed, went downstairs, opened the front door, walked into the movie theater … and failed to secure first place at the box office.
Every movie, that is, except for horror flick Weapons.
The film snatched an additional $25 million from North American audiences this weekend to maintain its spot at the top of the box office. In total, that brings its domestic gross to $89 million and its worldwide cume to $148.7 million—an impressive number for any horror movie.
Another freaky film refused to swap its spot at the top, too: Freakier Friday, which managed to swipe an extra $14.5 million from American pockets. Domestically, that raises its earnings to $54.8 million. Globally, Freakier Friday rests at $86.3 million.
As for third place, please don’t interpret this as a “who’s on first” situation when I tell you that Nobody took third—to be more precise, Nobody 2. The assassin sequel beat $9.3 million out of North American audiences in its debut. And for good measure, it threw a few punches overseas, too, for an extra $4.9 million. On the one hand, that means the sequel debuted to a higher number than its predecessor. On the other, the original film released in late March 2021, when COVID ate at movie theater profits. So, despite the $14.2 million worldwide cume, only time will tell how well this sequel will do.
And as The Fantastic Four: First Steps moves into its fourth weekend since release, it also moves into fourth place at the box office. This weekend, it secured $8.8 million domestically, bringing its domestic total to $247 million. Comparing the movie to Marvel’s other 2025 releases, Fantastic Four comes out on top; Captain America: Brave New World secured $200.5 million, and Thunderbolts* scored $190.3. Still, being the most profitable Marvel film of 2025 ranks it only as the MCU’s 23rd highest-grossing movie—not exactly a fantastic number. Worldwide, the movie has taken in $468.7 million.
The Bad Guys 2 rounded out the top five by earning $7.5 million. That brings its domestic total to $57 million and its worldwide cume to $117.4.
Looking down the list, 2025 re-release Shin Godzilla rose out of the Pacific to blast its way into 10th place. It earned $1.63 million. And docudrama East of Wall trotted into 15th, debuting to $372,000.
