Movie Monday: ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ Bites Down on Box Office

What’s with bears gaining prominence in pop culture? Winnie the Pooh, Little Bear, Brother Bear, Paddington, the Berenstain Bears, Yogi Bear, Fozzie Bear, Corduroy, Lotso, Ted, Baloo, Smokey Bear, the Care Bears. I might be inclined to throw in the Charmin bears, too.

Well, that overstuffed roster will have to squeeze another bear into its ranks: Freddy Fazbear, the namesake of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. The nefarious animatronic bear took a bite out of audience wallets this weekend—one that cost Americans $63 million. That’s a lower opening weekend than the franchise’s first film ($80 million), but it’s nevertheless good enough for first place. Worldwide, that number totals $109.1 million.

But if you like your anthropomorphic animals a little less … possessed by dead children, you might find yourself supporting the second-place winner, Zootopia 2. Despite a sizable fall from last week (57%), it still brought in $43 million. That raises its domestic total to $220.5 million. Worldwide, the fox-and-rabbit duo busted crime rings worth $915.8 million.

As for Wicked: For Good, Elphaba and Glinda learned their movie earnings are not unlimited. Rather, they earned $16.8 million, flying their domestic gain to $297 million and taking third place. Worldwide, For Good clicked its heels for $440.1 million. I hope they’re happy now.

The second newcomer to the top five, Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution found itself in fourth place. Its domestic cume came out to $10.2 million—not bad for a glorified recap, but nowhere near the opening for fellow anime Demon Slayer’s 2025 movie opening weekend ($70.6 million). Overseas, Execution fared better, bringing in $30.2 million. That totals its worldwide cume at $40.4 million.

Rounding out the top five was Now You See Me: Now You Don’t. In its fourth week since release, it earned $3.5 million, which brings its domestic earnings to $55.3 million. Factoring in its far better performance overseas, Now You See Me’s worldwide winnings come out to $209.3 million.

As for other newcomers, Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair learned just how valuable its four-and-a-half-hour runtime was. At $11,818 per minute, the movie brought in $3.3 million with American audiences. That’s good enough for sixth place. Meanwhile, down in 11th, Merrily We Roll Along rolled right into $1.2 million.

What he didn’t know at the time, however, was that he was the only person to submit a story. Regardless, the seed was planted. Kennedy collects and plays board games in his free time, and he loves to talk about biblical apologetics. He’s also an avid cook. He thinks the ending of Lost “wasn’t that bad.”
