Not much. “Can’t Have Your Cake” recalls mom’s advice to “stand tall” and “live your life by the golden rule.” “Forever” is a love song written to Neil’s wife (before she filed for divorce).
“Sister of Pain” features a woman squealing in ecstasy as Neil talks of sadomasochistic sex with a minister’s daughter. Hormones rage on with “Fine, Fine Wine.” Murder is glorified in “The Edge” and “Look in Her Eyes” (“You can feel excitement in your veins . . . the thrill, the kill, and you know that it is over”). Other themes include prostitution, marijuana use and sentiments about being “better off dead.”
Neil’s screaming vocals and wailing guitars underscore equally grating messages. Don’t be Exposed.
