Album Review

Pro-Social Content

Wishful thinking on “If I Had My Way” pictures a world of love with no hunger or war (background vocals by Amy Grant). “Real Lady’s Man” warns a friend of the consequences of affairs (“For the softness of a stranger I threw good love away/Friend, there ain’t no higher price to pay”). Gill pays tribute to a person who has died (“Go Rest High on That Mountain”), crooning “go to heaven shoutin’ love for the Father and the Son.” Deep commitment on “If There’s Anything I Can Do” is enhanced by the assurance that things will get better in God’s “much bigger plan.”

Objectionable Content

“What the Cowgirls Do” includes partying, where they “chug a lug longnecks till their money’s all gone.” True love is confused with impulsive, fiery passion on “Maybe Tonight.”

Summary Advisory

A few disturbing themes cloud an otherwise outstanding effort-an unfortunate trend for this talented artist.
