By invoking God’s word, Da Band teams spirituality with obscenities, drug peddling and thug posturing (“All I do is move blow off tha corner … [as] a young boy I acknowledged Christ … You thinkin’ life’s a joke/I’ll slice your throat”). In typical gangsta fashion, seven tracks boast of being armed and dangerous. Life is cheap on “Gangsta S—,” which finds Snoop Dogg and Loon rapping, “Just say the word and his head spat out all over the curb/It ain’t nothin’ to a playa/It’s just like rollin’ some herb” (this cut also alludes to shooting women and homosexuals). A half-dozen songs glamorize marijuana, cocaine or Cristal. Leering tracks such as “Shake Ya Tailfeather,” “Show Me Your Soul” and “Flipside” obsess about thongs, “booty,” oral sex and watching women disrobe. Loon’s explicit “Relax Your Mind” prefers “hot sex in hallways.” Justin Timberlake’s “I Love You” starts as a love song, but ends with an angry “screw you!”
It took up to four artists to collaborate on some of these foul anthems. Culprits not indicted above include Freeway, Foxy Brown, P. Diddy, 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Nelly, Mario Winans, Lenny Kravitz, Murphy Lee, Pharrell Williams, Beyoncé, Fat Joe, Dre and Notorious B.I.G. Avoid this stickered mess and the R-rated movie that inspired it.
