Romantic commitment and sacrifice marks Journey’s “Remember Me,” Aerosmith’s gritty love ballad, “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing,” and Chantel Kreviazuk’s remake of “Leaving on a Jet Plane.” Shawn Colvin asks for a prayer and a blessing as she leaves hard times behind in search of a better future (“When the Rainbow Comes”).
On “Roll Me Away” Bob Seger recalls climbing aboard a motorcycle after having “a few drinks.” Alcohol also gets a mention on “Mister Big Time”(by Jon Bon Jovi). Aerosmith’s “Come Together” contains a veiled reference to cocaine use, and the band’s profanity-peppered “What Kind of Love Are You On” alludes to sexual conquests including “rockin’ in the cradle with a high school vamp.” The spoken dialogue/ innuendo of “Animal Crackers” reflects foreplay between unmarried characters in the film.
Enlisting a squad of ’80s rockers may guarantee intergenerational appeal, but Armageddon‘s mixed messages keep the disc from being “fun for the whole family.” Skip it.
