It uses the s-word twice, and reveres the ideologies of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. “Art & Life (Chi-Roc)” and “Higher” express murderous rage. Drugs are glamorized throughout. “Sunshine” celebrates dealing crack and weed (“We movin’ the rocks and with the pounds of dro”). Fancying himself a Godfather-esque don, the artist calls himself “Twista Corleone” (“Get Me”). Tracks such as “Pimp On,” “Badunkadunk” and “Drinks” disrespect women as sexual playthings, calling them “b–ches” and “hos.” “Like a 24,” “Overnight Celebrity,” “Slow Jamz” and “So Sexy” involve explicit, often kinky sexual propositions. “Snoopin’” is a cruel, crass rebuke of a lover who wonders if the singer is being faithful to her. Marijuana, cognac and a ménage à trois appear on “Still Feels So Good.” Obscenities fly on virtually every track.
Known for a rapid-fire, barely intelligible delivery that often sounds like someone fast-forwarding through a CD, Twista is a novelty. But there’s nothing unique about his message. It’s the same profane, erotic, misogynist, dro-smoking, gun-toting garbage … on speed.
