Pro-Social Content

The mere thought of a guy thrills Branch and makes her feel whole on “Drop in the Ocean,” “Everywhere,” “I’d Rather Be in Love” and “You Set Me Free” (used to advertise the film Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron). She wants to reconcile with her partner on “Here with Me,” “Goodbye to You” and “If Only She Knew.” On “You Get Me,” the singer marvels that her man understands and loves her in spite of her idiosyncrasies. She promises to stand beside him when times get tough (“All You Wanted”). “Sweet Misery” fondly recalls the influence and emotional support received from a special friend.

Objectionable Content

While cryptic, “Something to Sleep To” could be interpreted as involving a sexual encounter.

Summary Advisory

Michelle Branch is one talented teen. She plays guitar, writes her own songs and belts out playful, yet assertive vocals that have her peers lip-synching into hairbrushes. Fun hooks. Innocuous messages. One obscure track notwithstanding, The Spirit Room is a cool place to hang out.
