“Inside of Me” thanks a love for his support and reliability, but . . .
. . . it is underscored by heavy breathing, reinforcing a sexual double entendre. Shallow eroticism with virtual strangers is a recurring theme (“I’d Rather Be Your Lover,” “Forbidden Love,” “Human Nature”). The title track dwells on the fact that the artist is “leaving logic and reason, traveling in the arms of unconsciousness.” The hedonistic anthem “Human Nature” repeatedly tells the listener, “Express yourself; don’t repress yourself . . . I’m not your b-, don’t lay your s- on me.”
Ignore anything you’ve heard about an “image change.” Madonna’s Bedtime Stories are still a far cry from acceptability.
