Album Review

Pro-Social Content

Natural born killers get no respect on “That Party,” which denounces using violence to solve problems (“Youth with a gun . . . needs to learn if you take a life, you ain’t got none”). Caring and romantic commitment are described on “Whisper Your Name.” Repentence and accepting responsibility figure into the story of “Booker.” “Between Us” suggests that life involves moral absolutes (“In an age of greys when wrong won’t become right, let’s lift the haze and scale the heights”). Connick recommends taking a stand, exercising boldness and learning from the mistakes of others on the rock-imbued tune “Honestly Now.”

Summary Advisory

Stylistically, a change of pace from the crooner’s Sinatra-esque jazz repertoire. But despite the infusion of pop/rock elements, Connick’s lyrics continue to reflect wholesome ideals.
