“Life Is So Hard” prays to God, giving thanks for health, happiness and other blessings. Unfortunately . . .
It’s safe to say God would gladly distance Himself from the rest of the project. Graphic sexual slang inhabits “You Ain’t Gettin’ None” and “Gangsta B–ches.” The latter also reflects militant independence, and winks at drugs and alcohol. Six cuts (“Got What You Need,” “Thug in the Street,” “Let Me Blow Ya Mind,” “That’s What It Is,” “Scream Double R,” “No, No, No”) promote gangsta violence. Fists. Knives. Guns. Hateful lyrics include “We throw babies in the trash” and “They can’t see your eyes or your nose/Why P?/’Cause four, five slugs is consumin’ the space/. . . I don’t stop poppin’ ’til your body don’t breathe.” Women are commonly referred to as “b–ches” and “hos.” Profanities and obscenities appear throughout. The f-word is wielded liberally on the bitter tirade “You Had Me, You Lost Me.” “Who’s That Girl” and “Be Me” are all about Eve, talking prideful trash and celebrating excess. Marijuana seems to be the drug of choice.
Earlier in her career, Eve Jihan Jeffers performed under the name “Eve of Destruction.” She should have kept it. It would give parents a better sense of her misguided musical mission. These raps are loaded with venom. Don’t let teens get stung by Scorpion.
