Album Review

Pro-Social Content

The artist comforts a girl done wrong by her man (“My Baby”), and thanks his mother for her love and protection (“To My Mama”). Despite an angry tone, “The Movement” includes upbeat lines about God’s goodness and the need to care for children.

Objectionable Content

A junior thug on the rise, Bow Wow hasn’t graduated to Glocks and gats, but he still does some urban saber rattling on “The Don, The Dutch.” “Get It Poppin’” proclaims, “I can’t lie/I love B.O.O.T.Y. ’cause I never let it walk on by.” While not explicit, other sexually aware lines mar “Hey Little Momma” (he can only visit his sweetie when her dad’s not home), “Let’s Get Down”(he brags about having a bevy of beauties at his beck and call like Austin Powers) and “Eighteen” (the age at which he plans to be dating an older woman). On “I’ll Move On,” he brags about being more mature than the average 13-year-old, yet displays a reckless desire for independence (“If it gets a little wild, so what?/It’s an ounce of experience”). Never lacking in self-confidence, this teen puts himself on a pedestal throughout, stating, “Girls all scream … guys wanna be me,” “No other cat as attractive as me” and “I’m the very best.” He also calls himself “the greatest … untouchable.”

Summary Advisory

While not as rabid as his thug elders, Bow Wow (he dropped the Lil’ from his name) is moving in their direction. Fans of his style should try CCM’s Lil’ iROCCWilliams—upbeat junior-circuit rap without the arrogance.
