“Change” suggests that a person can overcome circumstances through change. Although hopeful (compared to the rest of this record), it fails to mention biblical specifics.
Recreational drug use is promoted on several tunes (“I’m feeling better when I’m high”), and two tracks blatantly reject Christians and their faith (“Holyman” and “Soak the Skin”). “I Wonder” and “Time” talk about enduring a dark, bleak, living hell here on earth. All things considered (including lines about excretory functions) this album paints a generally dismal picture of life.
Heavy MTV exposure vaulted this band to stardom. But Melon’s message is just another loud diatribe about the miseries of human existence, avoiding reality with drugs and a denial of spiritual truth.
