The singer takes a “Leap of Faith.” After quoting John 15:13, “8th of November” honors soldiers killed in Vietnam. “Our America” is a patriotic medley. Shaky theology notwithstanding, grief over a deceased partner compels a man to pray (“I Pray for You”). “Filthy Rich” takes shots at people who profit at others’ expense. However …
The chorus repeats the phrase, “You can bet your a–.” Stray profanities and nods to alcohol appear throughout. The title track is a city-by-city tour of the U.S. with booze at almost every stop. Despite a cautionary line about driving drunk, “20 Margaritas” chronicles a kinship forged from a love of tequila, moonshine and dalliances with willing ladies. The sexual proposition “Soul Shaker” tells a woman, “I’m a true love maker … when I give you what I got, you’re gonna rock.” The worst of the lot is “Caught Up in the Moment,” a randy tale of strangers in an airport who fall in lust at first sight, have sex on the plane to Vegas and, after a stint at the blackjack table, get hitched at the nearest wedding chapel. A “sexy, spicy hot senorita” dances suggestively and “lets the tequila do the talkin’” on “Jalapeno.”
City throws a few bones to God and country, but this rowdy mix of fiddles and rock insolence is more about raising Cain than encouraging good citizenship.
