Objectionable Content

Labeled with an advisory sticker, Mellow Gold weaves together lyrics that range from pointless (“spray paint the vegetables, dog food stalls, beefcake panty hose”) to negative (“I’m a loser, baby, so why don’t you kill me?” on the hit single, “Loser”) to downright explicit (“You lousy puke,” “Make me feel like an a–hole”). Song titles include “F—in’ With My Head.” In addition to vile language, numerous angry tunes advocate gun-toting violence, drug and alcohol use, and consorting with the devil.

Summary Advisory

At the time of this album’s release, Beck told Rolling Stone, “The whole concept of Mellow Gold is that it’s like a satanic K-Tel record found in a trash dumpster.” They should have left it there. This worthless disc spews refuse from start to finish.
