Bouncy tunes deal with various dimensions of romance, including sweet affection (“Roses Are Red,” “Good Morning Sunshine”), a frustrated woman’s inability to contact her man (“Calling You”), the end to a summer of love (“Doctor Jones”), a “tough-love” confrontation (“Be a Man”) and regrets over unfaithfulness with a desire for reconciliation (“Turn Back Time”).
Just like Robin Hood, “My Oh My” wishes to dishonestly redistribute wealth. Tequila flows during an all-night party where a sexual conquest is brewing (“Heat of the Night”). In fact, sexual suggestiveness and innuendo mar several tunes. On “Barbie Doll,” the plastic female invites Ken to undress her and “kiss me here, touch me there, hanky panky.” The singer uses candy store lingo to convey sexual desires (“Lollipop”).
Elements of Abba, Ace of Base and Madonna can be heard floating through Aqua’s upbeat musical Aquarium. Too bad its thumping dance grooves are swimming with lyrics that play to hormonal urges.
